A forever home for the cats nobody wanted

On an old mountain farm, strays, ferals and castoffs find food, care and a place to belong, for the rest of their lives.

Our Story

Mountain Cats Sanctuary is run by the mountain follower on an old farm in the hills of Grainger County. Cats come to us from our county and the counties around it: dumped on back roads, born wild in barns, or turned up starving at the door.

Today we feed and provide healthcare for over 70 cats across 3 colonies: Beantown, Avondale, and Mountain.

Most sanctuaries try to rehome. We generally don't. Once a cat is here, this land is home for good.

Rescue

We take in stray, abandoned, feral and unwanted cats who have nowhere else to go.

Shelter

Safe, dry spaces on the farm, out of the weather and away from the road.

Food

Every cat gets fed, every day, from shy barn ferals to the old regulars.

Vet care

Medical care for injuries and illness, plus spay/neuter and TNR-style care for feral cats.

Meet the Cats

Scar, a short-haired one-eyed ginger tomcat

Our star

Scar

A short-haired ginger tom with one eye, Scar showed up at the sanctuary door thin, filthy, and hurting, "a scrap of orange fur and bone." The mountain follower knelt down in the dirt and told him he was safe now.

One year later, that broken cat is the king of pine and stone, and the lead singer of “This Land Is Finally Home.”

Music & Videos

We make music to spread the word about the cats of these mountains. Our YouTube channel has daily videos of the cats in all three colonies: Beantown, Avondale, and Mountain.

Our Dream

Someday we hope to build a climate-controlled shelter with a large protective fence around it. The cats could come and go as they please and still be safe inside the fence. We already own the land: 5 acres at the Mountain colony that are the perfect spot for it. Every donation brings that day closer.
